About

Dallas Ebersviller

Portrait of artist Dallas Ebersviller, black and white, with his signature

Biography

Dallas Ebersviller is a self-taught oil painter and charcoal artist and a U.S. Navy veteran. He grew up in Montana, moved to Wisconsin at 11, and joined the Navy at 20 as a Nuclear Machinist's Mate. He served from 2010 to 2017 and retired as an MMN1 (E-6) on a medical retirement.

After the Navy, Dallas hit a dark place. One day, watching Bob Ross, he thought, "I bet I could do that." He picked up a brush and has been painting ever since 2018.

Today he paints wildlife, landscapes, people, and the Navy ships he once called home. His original work has sold more than 50 times to collectors across the country, including corporate sales to General Dynamics. He won First Place in Oil Painting at the 2024 National Veterans Creative Arts Program local competition at the St. Cloud VA for "The Strong, Wild, and Free." He is a Veteran Art Institute Featured Artist, and more than 20 of his paintings are on display at the Veterans Resource Enrichment Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. A magazine interview is coming soon.

For Dallas, painting is about more than the finished picture. It helps his mental health and gives him a mission and purpose again.

Commissions are open, and prints are available.

Artist statement

I paint and draw what I keep coming back to: people, weather, woods, animals, and the ships I knew in the Navy. The oils are realism and impressionism, worked from life and from memory. The charcoal is the same subjects with the color taken out. I want the picture to feel specific, fog on a road, a person held still, a bird, a carrier in a storm, rather than a scene explained.
